Common questions
The things people ask before downloading. There are more answers on the support page.
Do I need an account to use BiteSum?
No. BiteSum has no account and no sign-up. You open the app and start logging, and there is no email address, password or profile to create.
Does BiteSum work offline?
Yes. Logging food, editing entries and seeing your daily totals all work with no network connection, because the estimates are worked out on your phone. Only the optional cloud AI guidance needs the internet.
Is BiteSum free?
Yes. Logging food on your device is free, and we have committed in our Terms to keeping it free. BiteSum Pro is an optional paid subscription that adds credits for cloud AI guidance; it is not needed to log food.
Where is my food diary stored?
On your phone. Your everyday food diary stays on the device during normal use rather than on a server. Optional uploads, such as cloud AI guidance and diagnostic reports, are described in the Privacy Policy.
How do I log food in BiteSum?
Type or say what you ate in plain language, such as "two eggs and a flat white". BiteSum works out the calories and macros, and you can correct portions in plain English afterwards.
Does BiteSum track macros as well as calories?
Yes. BiteSum shows calories, protein, carbohydrates, fat, fibre and sugar for each entry and for your day as a whole.
Is BiteSum available on Android?
